Explain Racism To The Kids

leave a comment »

John Dickerson and Emily Bazelon on Slate have compiled a kind-of Frequently Asked Questions selection focusing on questions from children about the historical significance of Obama’s election. It does seem a difficult thing to explain to children that the reason we, and everyone in the US is happy/smug, is that a black man has been voted to the highest political office in the world in the country with such deep black-white racial tensions. Good luck, parents.
