Baby P Social Worker Wanted Child in Care

with one comment

The BBC has discovered that senior Haringey social worker Sylvia Henry wanted Baby P to be taken into foster care after an incident in 2006 when he was admitted to hospital owing to non-accidental injuries. Her seniors at the council’s social services did not however agree, instead recommending that the child be put into the care of a family friend.

Children’s Secretary Ed Balls is to set out legislation in Commons to address the issue across the country but this is starting to become a loaded issue. The utter tragedy of it all where all the blame seems to be going, Haringey Council. They are under-funded by the government, the social workers overworked because of their case load, and really, where is the true evil in this saga. Why is more anger not being directed at the mother and the two men who will be sentenced next month? Haringey undoubtedly made mistakes in its social care practices, but the blame is not being spread around enough at the moment.

  1. Holly Schlaack does a fantastic job of educating reviewer in her book Invisible Kids (www.InvisibleKidsTheBook.com) without them even knowing it. I was so engaged in the stories of foster kids that I didn’t recognize I was discovering important information about the lifelong impact of abuse and neglect on children as the rest of society.
