Obama Will Define GOP
Andrew Sullivan puts forward an interesting theory that plays nicely into my personal adoration for the inspirational drive of Obama. He argues that if Obama retains a centrist leaning while in office, and is rewarded with success both fiscally and through public opinion, then Republicans could view this as a chance to hew further centre and enact a renaissance of the party.
He adds however the more likely notion, especially in the first term, that the party will flee to heavily towards the right and will be galvanised in the spirit of leaders like Sarah Palin. Perhaps by the close of Obama’s second term in office, Republicans will realise the value in talking, understanding and diplomacy in domestic politics and America will ride into a new age, older and wiser and significantly less racist.
